The Program Today

Kent School Boat Club today is a unified rowing program grounded in long-standing tradition and focused on developing student-athletes through disciplined training, competitive racing, and a strong sense of responsibility to the team. The program serves both boys and girls and remains central to the athletic and residential life of the school.

Rowing at Kent is intentionally demanding. It requires consistency, commitment, and the ability to work within a team toward a shared goal. These expectations shape not only competitive performance, but also the broader educational experience, reinforcing habits that carry well beyond the boathouse.

The Rhythm of the Season

The Kent rowing program operates year-round, with a clear seasonal structure that supports both development and competition.

Fall Season
The fall season emphasizes technical development, physical conditioning, and foundational training. Athletes focus on refining boat skills, building aerobic capacity, and developing cohesion across boats. Fall racing, including head-style regattas, provides opportunities for evaluation, experience, and program-wide engagement.

Winter Training
During the winter months, the program transitions to structured indoor training. This period prioritizes strength, conditioning, and technical reinforcement, preparing athletes physically and mentally for the spring racing season.

Spring Season
Spring is the competitive centerpiece of the rowing year. Crews train with increased intensity and race across New England and beyond, culminating in championship regattas such as NEIRAs and national-level competition. The spring season reflects the full expression of the program’s preparation, discipline, and competitive standards.

Throughout the year, the program maintains a balance between performance and sustainability, ensuring that athletes are challenged appropriately while supported in their academic and residential commitments.
